New perspectives on potential hydrogen storage materials using high pressure.

چکیده
In addressing the global demand for clean and renewable energy, hydrogen stands out as the most suitable candidate for many fuel applications that require practical and efficient storage of hydrogen. Supplementary to the traditional hydrogen storage methods and materials, the high-pressure technique has emerged as a novel and unique approach to developing new potential hydrogen storage materials. Static compression of materials may result in significant changes in the structures, properties and performance that are important for hydrogen storage applications, and often lead to the formation of unprecedented phases or complexes that have profound implications for hydrogen storage. In this perspective article, 22 types of representative potential hydrogen storage materials that belong to four major classes--simple hydride, complex hydride, chemical hydride and hydrogen containing materials--were reviewed. In particular, their structures, stabilities, and pressure-induced transformations, which were reported in recent experimental works together with supporting theoretical studies, were provided. The important contextual aspects pertinent to hydrogen storage associated with novel structures and transitions were discussed. Finally, the summary of the recent advances reviewed and the insight into the future research in this direction were given.

Metal-diboride nanotubes as high-capacity hydrogen storage media.
We investigate the potential for hydrogen storage of a new class of nanomaterials, metal-diboride nanotubes. These materials have the merits of a high density of binding sites on the tubular surfaces without the adverse effects of metal clustering. Using the TiB2 (8,0) and (5,5) nanotubes as prototype examples, we show through first-principles calculations that each Ti atom can host two intact ...
متن کاملStudy of Dehydrogenation of Pressure-induced NaBH4 Structures Using Calculated NQCC Parameters
Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectroscopy is an accurate method for determination of electric charge distribution around quadrupolar nuclei. Using ab initio computational methods, it is possible to calculate the Nuclear Quadrupole Coupling Constants (NQCCs) with high accuracy and obtain the useful structural information by using these parameters. Sodium Borohydride, NaBH4, is a metal hydr...
متن کاملHigh-pressure torsion for new hydrogen storage materials
High-pressure torsion (HPT) is widely used as a severe plastic deformation technique to create ultrafine-grained structures with promising mechanical and functional properties. Since 2007, the method has been employed to enhance the hydrogenation kinetics in different Mg-based hydrogen storage materials. Recent studies showed that the method is effective not only for increasing the hydrogenatio...
متن کاملGravimetric storage capacity of Hydrogen on C24H12 Coronene and its Si substituted at 298 K, a Monte Carlo Simulation
In this study, the radial distribution and gravimetric storage capacities of hydrogen on coronene (C24H12) and its Si substituted forms, C24H12, C24-nSinH12 (n= 4-24), have been investigated at 298 K and 0.1 MPa (standard situation) using (N,V,T) Monte Carlo simulation by Lennard-Jones (LJ) 12-6 potential. The results show that the increase of number of silicon substitution doesn’t have any eff...
